    What if fedor is protecting his A high’s by choosing this line and sizing knowing some draws will be priced in and some will call to try and steal it on the river anyway ? What if he did this with the intention of calling if any card 2-8 hit the river?

    Eliot should be either shoving or folding to the turn check raise no? Benny will show up with hands he cannot call with as demonstrated by his selection here which is great for us with 7 high. We also cannot call if we pair can we? what does that leave? literally 3 clean outs to the low end of a straight? Is Benny gonna check fold two pair on the river if 7 or a diamond comes? I don't like the call, I legit think its the worst option.

    So the modern high roller circuit is it’s own ecosystem where elite Players play against predictable opponents while Phil has to navigate fields where elite players’ strategies largely won’t work as much. I think he is the best large field tournament player of all time

    Keating *REALLY* should check-raise the flop for the reasons you mentioned. There are just too many hands he can fold out that are ahead of T9 which is only drawing to the nuts on a non-spade 7 because KT is the nuts on a Q/A run out. Realistically, Rahul can only call a Keating flop check-raise with KhTh so Keating can actually clean all his non-spade Q run outs by raising and folding out almost all of Rahul's KT combos, which is *massive* this deep where having the essential nuts matters *way* more than say 100bb deep. Also, range-wise that board is better for Keating who would have to check-raise all his J8, J4, and 84 combos that he *will* have because he closed the action pre-flop. Those hands need protection from all the bad turn cards and from being counterfeited against Rahul's overpairs.

    I think he should value the river, (unless read), but its a fold to almost any reraise. Maybe call a clickback rr, and that's about it. If he thinks he can't fold to a rr, then just don't play at all. I find that to a useful indicator of whether I should keep playing. When folding seems effortless, its gonna be a good session. If the fold button is missing otoh, it might just be better to call it a day.

  • @pahakuutti
    @pahakuutti 20 дней назад

    It's a bad call otr. He even said he should have checked it down, called out T9s, which indicated he knows he should now fold, and pot odds aren't even that great. To go from that line of thought, to calling a million $ shove with what is basically only a bluff catcher, is quite a weird decision. Ok sure sometimes You gotta call those to be hard to play against. But in that spot?

    Cmon. Is the oop player going to not raise on this board with 2 or plus? No. Hence the top set with the diamonds coming in is a fold because I don't believe worse is betting for value. Only Ad and pr MIGHT be bluffing.

  • @TimTotten
    @TimTotten 23 дня назад

    Love your content! But I think you are being too hard on Mike X for the river call here. And no, I'm not being results-oriented. In short, the bluff is pretty bad for all the reasons you discuss. It makes very little sense, and there are very few value hands that take this line. On the other side, Mike X has a bluff catcher. And when you are confident that your opponent is bluffing at too high of a frequency, and especially if he takes a super suspicious line like this, then the correct response (in GTO and real life) is simply to shrug and call with all the bluff catchers. Calling is the decision with the highest EV. At least that's the way I see it.

    Backdoor clubs seem like the most likely hand for my opponent to have here in a vacuum for value. I think if andy is leading top set he has to construct a bluffing range to balance which wouldn’t involve front door flush draws Would it? It would be hands like A10 of clubs, K10 of clubs, 910 of clubs, AK of clubs ect. Its a four bet pot so his value is top set and all the backdoor flush draws and what are his bluffs? Does he have any if the backdoor flush draw hit? I honestly don’t think so.

    So my take on the lead comes from something I’ve noticed players doing a lot lately in position, and that’s raising hands with bad immediate equity on the flop but reasonable RR equity to see a cheaper 2. One of the counterplays would be to call flop then lead the turn against a combo draw and force them to pay for the river. Not saying it’s right, but Ive been getting back into poker lately and have seen players make that play a lot in position.

    Having played with Phil a handful of times, there are 3 factors that have made Phil successful: 1. He plays a ridiculous amount of WSOP events. Like, probably more than anyone else, ever. 2. He's famous, and everybody wants to play hands with him. Everyone wants to bluff him, or bust to him. This is ridiculously advantageous in large field events with lots of amateurs. 3. His speech game. He's very good at getting information from talking to people, and because of #2, people are more likely to engage and respond to him. His tilting, his quirks, etc. are 50% an act, and they get people talking, engaging, and giving information away. I've seen him do this to players who haven't said a word all day. It's a huge edge, and definitely a skill.

    Getting raised holding 7h9h in this spot is *WORSE* than if you have 66. It's because holding the 9h means Charles has basically *ZERO* bluffs. In terms of what's supposed to call as played, Airball hardly has any JJ-TT in range and can probably only call with precisely all his Q9, 97s (excluding 97h), and for the missing 97h combo he can probably call with precisely 8s8c because it doesn't block Charles from having 98h.
